We’re happy to announce new updates to our implementation of the 2023 New Jersey Student Learning Standards for Mathematics (NJSLS-M) on Atlas! Here’s what’s new.

Mathematics Course Frameworks and Content Emphases

The New Jersey Board of Education has published comprehensive High School Mathematics Course Framework and Content Emphases and K-8 Mathematics Content Emphases guides that provides suggestions for where students and teachers should focus their time, and how the NJSLS-M standards are recommended to align with Algebra 1, Geometry, and Algebra 2 courses. This includes:

  • Emphasis Levels: Standards are categorized as major (M), supporting (S), or additional (A) work for each grade level, reflecting their importance to conceptual understanding and college or career readiness.
  • Multi-Course Standards: Some NJSLS-M standards span multiple courses (additional guidance provided in the Limits and Clarifications for Multi-Course Standards document), with some standards assigned different emphasis levels in different courses.
